FRS Grant Program
Every year, FRS awards between $250 and $5,000 to rural communities throughout the United States, and in 2017 there was $30,000 to draw from (thanks to generous sponsorships from Bennet & Bennet, PLLC; Ericsson Inc.; Mapcom Systems; and National Information Solutions Cooperative!). The application process isn’t complicated, and the benefits are far-reaching. Help your community learn more about the FRS Grant Program by checking out the application today!

FRS supports organizations and projects that fit into the following grant categories:

• Business and Economic Development—Entrepreneurship and job creation programs.
• Community Development—Outreach programs that promote technology learning and innovation. Programs that encourage rural development through arts and tourism.
• Education—Technology in the classroom (computers, smart boards), curriculum development, extracurricular activities and distance learning programs.
• Telecommunications—Broadband applications such as telehealth technology, broadband adoption projects and basic technology infrastructure (like community hot spots).

Every summer, hundreds of rural students from all over the United States are chosen to visit our nation’s capital and learn about rural telecommunications.  Green Hills proudly sponsors one local student each year by paying for their airfare, lodging, registration fees and spending money for this unique opportunity (valued at $1,600). The deadline is usually in February. If you’re interested, speak to your high school counselor or contact Sherryl Garcia at 660-644-5411. Counselor’s must nominate students for this trip, so it’s important to let your counselor know you’re interested in entering.

Each year, high school seniors whose parent or legal guardians are telephone, Internet, or Skitter TV customers of Green Hills Communications have the opportunity to win a $2,500 scholarship. Scholarship applications from all over the United States are submitted to FRS for judging. If an entry is chosen from Green Hills, the scholarship is sponsored in part by Green Hills Communications ($500) and FRS (up to $2000). If an entry from our area is not chosen, Green Hills chooses a winner from our area applicants and awards the winner with a $500 college scholarship.

The deadline for the 2020 scholarship is March 6, 2020.  All applications will be entered online, this year. For more information contact your high school counselor or Sherryl Garcia at Green Hills Communications.

For many years, Green Hills Communications has been able to donate over $4,400 in school supplies to assist students in our area schools. Donating such items as crayons, calculators, scissors, markers, pencils, hand sanitizer, kleenexs, and more. The schools are contacted each year for their wish list and then items are delivered before the school year begins.

Green Hills Communications began the Gift of Giving program in 2018. This is a way to embrace the holiday spirt of giving and extend a special thank you to our business customers. We contract each of our business customers and ask them to choose a charity of their choice, then Green Hills will make a $15 donation to that charity on their behalf. Green Hills Communications has donated over $2,200 each year to local charities in our area.
