Serving Our Communities for Over 100 Years

1952

A small group of citizens met in a church basement in Breckenridge, Missouri, in 1950 to discuss bringing telephone service to rural families of North Central Missouri. The group formed under the name Farmers’ Cooperative. In 1952, it became a member-owned cooperative, established a Board of Directors, and changed the name to Green Hills Telephone Corporation.

There were several farm-owned telephone companies in the area that supplied customers with an operator-handled party line. After receiving an overwhelming response from these area companies, Green Hills installed the first modern dial telephone in 1954.

During the 1970s, Green Hills upgraded its service by replacing the above ground telephone lines with buried copper wire giving customers private lines.

1986

1986

By 1986, Green Hills Communications had acquired 12 total phone exchanges. Lock Springs (1952), Mooresville (1953), Ludlow (1953), Dawn (1953), Breckenridge (1954), Cowgill (1955), Knoxville (1955), Polo (1958), Bogard (1961), Tina (1961), Stet (1961), Avalon (1986), and Wheeling (1986).

Green Hills invested in two cablevision companies and began offering television services to customers.

The internet is here! Green Hills began offering dial-up internet services to customers.

New technologies to enhance internet connections began to be installed allowing customers to receive internet service through DSL technology.

Green Hills began placing fiber optic cables in place of coaxial cables, leading the way to a fiber optics plant and cutting edge technology with higher speeds and reliability.

Green Hills was honored to receive a $3.4M USDA ReConnect grant in Round One, serving 314 locations with fiber in rural Caldwell and Livingston counties.

Green Hills Communications acquired Citizens Telephone of Higginsville, MO. Introducing new technologies and customer base.

Green Hills was honored to receive close to $4.7M through the NTIA grant, serving 302 locations with fiber east of Chillicothe in Livingston County.

Green Hills was honored to receive $7.4M through the APRA grant, serving over 1,300 rural locations in the communities of Hamilton and Braymer in Caldwell County.

SmartTown Launch

Green Hills Communications launched SmartTown, an exciting extension of our Ultimate Wi-Fi service. SmartTown gives customers access to community-wide Wi-Fi in public areas, allowing them to stay connected beyond the walls of their homes. This innovative feature brings added convenience, value, and mobility to our rural communities—at no additional cost to subscribers.

Our leadership team, led by David Adams, Executive VP & General Manager, works alongside an outstanding staff dedicated to keeping our customers connected. Team leaders include Ashley Greenwood, Sales & Marketing Manager; Cindy Hewitt, Chief Financial Officer; Tony Figg, IT & Business Services Manager; and Chris Shoe, Plant Manager. Our management team provides guidance and direction to the entire Green Hills team, working together to deliver reliable service and ensure your connection runs smoothly without interruption.
